Spark gap tube of soviet production R-18 (Р-18) is a glass, inert gas (argon) filled high-frequency discharge tube with two closely placed electrodes, which was designed to protect communication lines and equipment against atmospheric overvoltages by creating a controlled electrical arc between electrodes within a sealed housing.
